The Karnataka High Court on Tuesday dismissed petitions filed by the former Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa challenging the proceedings initiated against him before the Special Lokayukta Court in connection with two instances of land denotification. Proceedings were initiated against him based on complaints filed by Sirajin Basha.
Justice Anand Byrareddy said that splitting of one complaint, for which the government had accorded sanction for prosecution, into five different complaints before the Special Court does not vitiate the proceedings.
In his two petitions, Mr. Yeddyurappa had questioned two of the five complaints in which he was accused of denotifying land at Kempapura and Srirampura that benefited Davalagiri Properties, a company owned by his sons and other family members.
Nirani’s case
Mr. Justice Byareddy also dismissed a petition filed by the former Minister Murugesh Nirani challenging the probe conducted by the Lokayukta police, following a Special Lokayukta Court directive, into a complaint about cancellation of plot allotted to a businessman, Alam Pasha.
Mr. Pasha had complained that the Karnataka Industrial Areas Development Board had allotted him a 26-acre plot but the allotment was cancelled based on a forged letter. He had complained that Mr. Nirani and Mr. Yeddyurappa had cancelled the allotment based on the forged letter in which he was said to have sought for cancellation of allotment. He had claimed that he never submitted such a letter.
