Decision likely after the appointment of new national president

The former Chief Minister, B.S. Yeddyurappa, is expected to get a post in the Bharatiya Janata Party national organisation. According to sources in the BJP, there are no vacant posts in the State that suit the stature of Mr. Yeddyurappa, and the party does not want to abruptly curtail the term of incumbent State president Pralhad Joshi.

“Several posts in the party’s national organisation have fallen vacant in the wake of the formation of the new government.

But, a clear picture on the post to be given to Mr. Yeddyurappa is expected to emerge only after the appointment of the new national president,” sources said.

According to them, the party central leadership is expected to focus on the appointment of a new national president before filling up other organisational posts.

Speculation is rife that Mr. Yeddyurappa may be considered for the party national general secretary’s post, though sources in the State unit have not confirmed it. However, they are confident he will get a central party post.

If Mr. Yeddyurappa lands a central post, the equations in the party State unit will change. Already, the power equations appear to have changed with the former Chief Minister D.V. Sadananda Gowda getting the plum portfolio of Railways and also going up in the ‘pecking order’ as he was sworn in much earlier than the other State leader, Ananth Kumar, who has been given the Chemicals and Fertilizers portfolio.

Letter to PM

Mr. Yeddyurappa, who is facing a slew of cases of alleged corruption, had written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi just before his swearing-in as Prime Minister, declaring that he would strive for strengthening the party in the State, thus indicating that he was not in the race for a ministerial post.
