National vice-president of the Bharatiya Janata Party and MP B.S. Yeddyurappa and Leader of the Opposition in the Legislative Council K.S. Eshwarappa have criticised the Congress government in the State for tabling the Karnataka Hindu Religious Institutions and Charitable Endowments (Amendment) Bill during the recent session of the State Assembly.

“Owing to severe opposition from religious heads and common people, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has announced to withdraw the Bill. The move to table such a Bill has exposed the anti-Hindu stand of Mr. Siddaramaiah,” Mr. Yeddyurappa told the presspersons here on Thursday. The BJP would launch a State-wide campaign against the efforts by the Congress government to meddle with the administration of maths.

No precedent

The previous governments had never tried to interfere in the administration of maths. The Congress government had shown disregard for religious sentiments of the people by tabling the Bill. Popularity of the Congress government would come down owing to this misadventure, he said.

Speaking at a programme organised to launch the BJP’s membership drive here, Mr. Eshwarappa said that the Congress government in the State was playing with religious sentiments of the people by tabling the Bill to control Hindu religious institutions and by withdrawing the Karnataka Prevention of Slaughter and Preservation of Cattle Bill (2010) and Karnataka Prevention of Cow Slaughter and Preservation (Amendment) Bill, 2012, in the recent session of the State Assembly.
