Bharatiya Janata Party State president B.S. Yeddyurappa has challenged Chief Minister Siddaramaiah to go before the “people’s court” on allegations that the diary seized from Congress MLC K. Govindaraj’s residence during a raid by Income Tax authorities contains details of pay-offs made to the Congress central leadership.
“Let the Chief Minister dissolve the Assembly. Let us go before the people’s court to decide the issue,” Mr. Yeddyurappa told reporters here on Friday.
Referring to a private TV channel airing the alleged contents of the diary, Mr. Yeddyurappa, who had first made charges of pay-offs to the Congress central leadership, said, “I stand vindicated”.
Meanwhile, sources in the BJP said more “exposes” of similar nature related to I-T raids conducted on some of the serving and retired officials who are close to Congress leaders would come out in the public domain in the months to come.
Sources also said the BJP leaders would not resort to any legal action to take the diary episode to its logical end. Instead, the party was getting ready to launch public campaigns to take on the Congress government in the State.
The national unit of the BJP is also keen on targeting the Congress central leadership on this matter.
“The issue is set to be raised by BJP central leaders in the Assembly election campaigns in Uttar Pradesh for the phase covering Amethi,” a BJP leader said.
Complaint filed
The BJP filed a complaint with the cyber crime police on Friday after pages from a ‘diary’ with entries of alleged bribery by BJP politicians were circulated online.
Pages from a ‘diary’, allegedly belonging to a BJP MLC, were circulated through WhatsApp, purportedly showing accounts of donations given by members of the party when it was in power pre-2013.
The complaint was given to the police by the BJP’s social media cell.
