Yechury bats for Left alternative

Lashing out at the ‘anti-people’ policies of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government headed by the BJP at the Centre, General Secretary Communist Party of India (Marxists) Sitaram Yechury said the only alternative for India is a Left front.

On Monday, he was addressing a rally jointly organised by Left parties in the State to protest against the two-year misrule of NDA government at the Centre and three-year old Congress government in the State. Mr. Yechury said Left front could be the only credible alternative to revive the country and protect the secular and democratic values.

Hitting out at the BJP, he said the country, under Prime Minister Narendra Modi, had failed in all fronts and the gap between rich and poor was widening by the day. Pointing out the country’s worsening economic situation, Mr. Yechury noted that to wriggle out of this situation and divert the attention of the people from the real issues, BJP was engaged in communal polarisation. This, he said, was leading to unrest in the country.

“BJP see the Left as the biggest impediment and hence, BJP cadres are attacking Left party activists. But, Left cannot be cowed down by such strategies, as we know how to defend our cadres and country in the interest common man,” he said.
