Yakshagana festival in Kota from March 24

Kalapeeta, in association with South Central Zone Cultural Centre, Nagpur, and Department of Kannada and Culture, is organising a Yakshagana Festival at Kota in Udupi district from March 24 to 27.

In a release here on Friday, K. Narasimha Thunga, Secretary of Kalapeeta, said that senior Yakshagana guru M.N. Madhyastha would be felicitated during the inaugural function at Sadananda Ranga Mantapa in Kota on March 24. This would be followed by staging of Yakshagana episode or ‘prasanga’ titled ‘Vali Vadhe’ by Sri Idugungi Mahaganpati Yakshagana Mandali troupe from Keremane.

Female Yakshagana artistes of Yaksha Mahila Balga would stage the episode ‘Abhimanyu Kalaga’ on March 25, while the troupe from Kalapeeta would enact the episode ‘Indrajita Kalaga’ on March 26. The festival will conclude with the staging of the episode ‘Jambavati Kalyana’ by children’s Yakshagana troupe, Yaksha Taranga Balakara Yakshagana Mela on March 27, the release added.
