Yakshagana artistes should maintain quality

Upcoming Yakshagana artistes should maintain quality in performance rather than expecting cheap publicity from the audience and the media, said noted Yakshagana Bhagawata (singer) Subramanya Dhareshwar.

He was participating in the valedictory programme of three-day ‘Yakshanrityanusandhana’ held at Sonda Swarnawalli under the auspices of the organisation Yaksha Shalmala, according to a report on Wednesday.

Separate academy

Parthisubba Award winner G.S. Bhat Mysore urged the State government to consider a separate academy for Yakshagana and said that the best artistes should be conferred with a ‘Yakshashri’ award.

He said Yakshagana prasangas (episodes) and writers of prasangas should be included in the Kannada literary history.

Noted Bhagawata Manjunath Bhat Hosthota said Yakshagana artistes should come out of “groupism” for the development of the art form.

Earlier there was ‘Yaksha-Gana-Vaividya’ programme by Yakshagana stalwarts Nebbur Narayan Bhagwat, Subramanya Dhareshwar, Subray Bhagwat Kappekere, Ganapati Bhat Mottegadde, Keshav Hegde Kolgi, Ramakrishna Hillur, K.P. Hegde, Timmappa Bhagwat Balehadda, Satishh Hegde Dantakal and Anant Hegde Dantalike, supported by Shankar Bhagwat, Ganapati Kavale and Narasimha Bhat Handramane on Mridangam and Vigneshwar Kesarkopps on Chende.

Farmer Shankar Manjunath Bhat (32) of Tattigadde in Idagindi Gram Panchayat area in Yellapur taluk died after being electrocuted on Tuesday. There was no power in the house and when he went to check the electricity pole near the house, he was electrocuted.

He is survived by his father, mother, wife and a 15-day-old daughter.
