Yaduveer Krishnadatta Chamaraja Wadiyar, the 23-year-old adopted son of Pramoda Devi Wadiyar, will be crowned as ‘prince’ of the erstwhile Wadiyar dynasty at Amba Vilas Palace on May 28.

He will ascend the silver throne (Bhadrasana) soon after his ‘coronation’. Mr. Yaduveer may have to wait till Dasara to ascend the golden throne on which the heirs conduct the ‘khas durbar’ during Navarathri.

Over 1,000 special guests, including royal family members, close family relatives and friends, are expected to witness the coronation at the Kalyana Mantapa, the venue of all auspicious events.

Addressing a press conference at the residential palace here on Monday, Ms. Wadiyar, who turned emotional, said the ‘coronation’ would be held between 9.30 a.m. and 10.30 a.m (karkata lagna muhurta). Prior to this, four major ‘homas’ would be performed.

A battery of 100 priests will conduct the rituals as per the traditions being practised for 400 years.
