The grandeur of the royal wedding came alive at the Amba Vilas Palace here on Monday as Yaduveer Krishnadatta Chamaraja Wadiyar, scion of the Mysuru royal family, and Trishika Kumari of Rajasthan’s Dungarpur royal family entered into wedlock.
A 450-plus audience, comprising family members and close relatives of the Wadiyars and Dungarpurs and some royal families in North India, were part of the wedding celebrations that unfolded at the octagonal-shaped Kalyana Mantap.
Dressed in a golden sherwani with specially-made jewellery and traditional headgear, Yaduveer tied the mangalasutra’ to Trishika Kumari, who was wearing a pink and saffron silk sari, at the special mantap bedecked with a variety of flowers including ‘Mysuru Mallige’, at 10.24 a.m.
The wedding rituals were conducted in tune with the traditions followed by the Wadiyars since generations.
Ahead of the wedding, Trishika garlanded Yaduveer with a specially-made “Highness Garland” (prepared only for the royal weddings) keeping with the tradition. Both exchanged garlands a couple of times on the instructions of priests. Over three dozen priests solemnised the rituals that began at 6 a.m. The main rituals were performed between 9.05 a.m and 9.35 a.m.
Yaduveer’s mother Pramoda Devi Wadiyar, Trishika’s parents Harshvardhan Singh and Maheshree Kumari, sisters of late Srikantadatta Narasimharaja Wadiyar, Kamakshi Devi, Vishalakshmi Devi and Indrakshi Devi, and Yaduveer’s biological parents, Swarup Anand Urs and Tripurasundari Devi, were present.
Ms. Pramoda Devi Wadiyar said she was happy and satisfied at fulfilling the responsibilities, keeping in mind the legacy followed since ages. “To the best of my efforts, without compromising, the traditions have been carried through after the late Srikantadatta Naasimharaja Wadiyar,” she said.
The royal families from North India including from Dungarpur, Sirohi in Rajasthan, Rajkot in Gujarat, Nabha in Punjab, and Wakander in Gujarat, were part of the celebrations.
A royal feast awaited invitees as a lavish spread was prepared for the wedding.The menu had 26 items, including laddu, pheni, drakshi (raisin) gojju and mango icecream with a twist – served frozen in mango slices scooped out of pulp. The caterers for the event, AVS Nagaraj, were brought in from Bengaluru, and have been given the task of preparing the menu for all the wedding ceremonies.
A few more rituals will continue for the next two days. ‘Ullatotsava’, a ritual by the married couple, will be performed at the Durbar Hall on Saturday evening in the presence of select invitees, which includes Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, and Governor V.R. Vala.
