The police had a tough time in controlling thousands of followers of actor Yash in Surpur in Yadgir district and also in Raichur as their favourite star arrived late by five hours on Monday night.
According to sources, Yash, who recently formed a social service organisation, Yasho Marga Foundation, to help needy people facing drought, arrived in Surpur town at 9 p.m., though his scheduled time was 4 p.m. He then reached Raichur by midnight against his scheduled time of 7.30 p.m.
However, thousands of the actor’s fans, who were waiting for him, became anxious as Yash left the stage after addressing them for a few minutes citing shortage of time.
A few of them broke chairs and tore banners put up on the stage to express their anguish. When the fans turned unruly, the police had to resort lathi-charge to bring the situation under control.
Yash, who attended programmes in Bidar and Kalaburagi, also visited Korisiddeshwar Mutt at Nalwar in Chittapur taluk to seek the blessings of the seers there.
Chetan Singh Rathore and Iada Martin Marbanaing, Superintendents of Police, Raichur and Yadgir districts, respectively, told The Hindu on Tuesday that no cases have been registered.
Expressing unhappiness over the way the events were organised, Karnataka Prant Raitha Sangha blamed the organisers for their poor effort. “We were waiting for Yash for several hours to explain to him the problems being faced by farmers but due to shortage of time, we could not reach the message to the actor,” Mallikarjun Satyampet, district president of the organisation, said.
He, however, appreciated the actor’s efforts in attending to farmers grievances and taking up tank dredging work in the drought-prone areas.
