Sharply attacking the Opposition parties for criticising the State government, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has said that his government has implemented several pro-people schemes for the welfare of all communities. However, they (Opposition parties) are continuing to criticise the government misleading the people by making baseless allegations, he added.
He was addressing a gathering after inaugurating a shadi mahal constructed at Manvi town in Raichur on Thursday. The building has come up at a cost of ₹ 50 lakh.
The Congress believes in Constitutional values and in giving equal importance to all communities. But, the Bharatiya Janata Party believes only in dividing the communities on caste basis, he said and added that people should understand the hidden agenda of such political parties.
The State has been facing a severe drought for years now.
Therefore, a requisition was made to the Union government to release ₹ 4,702 crore to tackle the situation. But, it has released just ₹ 450 crore.
Not a single rupee has been released against a proposal seeking ₹ 386 crore to take relief works in flood-hit districts in the State, the Chief Minister said.
Mr. Siddaramaiah said that officials have been asked to ensure adequate fodder stock and provide drinking water in villages facing acute drinking water crisis on priority as there was no dearth of funds to tackle drought.
As much as ₹ 1,144 crore has been spent by the State government so far to implement relief works, he added.
Hampayya Naik, MLA from Manvi town, requested the Chief Minister to release ₹ 88 crore to take up a drinking water project for Manvi town. B.V. Naik, MP, H.C. Mahadevappa, Tanvir Sait, Ministers, S.N. Boseraju, Basavaraj Patil Itagi, MLCs, and others were present.
