Officials attached to various police stations in the district were trained about child rights legislations at a one-day workshop here on Monday. B. Sharath, Chief Executive Officer, Mandya Zilla Panchayat, inaugurated the workshop.

The officials were told to provide protection to women and children, victims of abuse especially domestic and sexual abuse. They were also told to provide moral support to complainants, protect the identity of women and children victims, not to harass or exploit victims, take measures to prevent child marriages and to help victims of sexual assault get immediate treatment.

The departments and agencies concerned were asked to hold similar programmes at taluk and hobli centres for other departments. The programme was organised by the District Administration with the association of various agencies.
