Many readers familiar with writer-journalist M.S. Prabhakara through his writings in The Hindu and The Economic and Political Weekly are not aware of the fact that he is a distinguished writer in Kannada as well.
The complete writings of Mr. Prabhakara in Kannada will be released on Sunday.
Though Mr. Prabhakara chose English for his academic writings, he preferred Kannada for much of his creative writings, which are regarded among the classics of the late 1960s and early ’70s, under the pen name Kamaroopi.
Incidentally, Kamaroop is the ancient name of Assam where he lived for years. He also spent many years in South Africa as The Hindu ’s correspondent. He currently lives in his native town Kolar.
He wrote his classic novel Kuduremotte in 1974 and noted directed G.V. Iyer made a film with the same title in 1977. His second novel Anjikinyatakayya? was published in 1981.
The veteran, who describes himself as an “accidental writer”, is brutally honest in his thoughts and writings.
The 280-page book, Samagra Kamaroopi to be launched on Sunday — published by Sanchaya — includes his fictional work, blog writings and poems. Historian S. Shettar is releasing the book at the Kannada Sahitya Parishat at 10.30 am.
