As many as 80 per cent Gram Panchayats (GP) in Kolar district observed bandh on Wednesday in support of various demands of GP workers. There are 176 GPs in the district.

The CITU affiliated Gram Panchayat Noukarara Sangha has given the bandh call condemning alleged delay of district administration in submitting service records of panchayat workers for the convenience of regularising them following a government decision.

The panchayat offices were locked and dharnas were held, the Sangha leaders said.

Bill collectors, watermen, electricians and other section of workers participated in the agitation.

“Most of the district administrations have done this job. But the authorities in Kolar have failed in submitting the details to government”, association leader Gandhinagar Narayanaswamy said.

Clearance of wage arrears and implementation of minimum wages act to the panchayat workers were other major demands, he said.
