Work on NH 75 widening may begin by December: Mahadevappa

‘Centre has responded positively to the project’

Public Works Minister H.C. Mahadevappa said on Sunday that the Union government has responded positively to a proposal to widen the National Highway 75 connecting Hassan and B.C. Road. The project includes construction of a 24-km tunnel in Shiradi Ghat.

Addressing presspersons here, the Minister said the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) had evinced interest in taking up the tunnel work. “The State government has discussed the project with Nitin Gadkari, Union Minister for Surface Transport and Highways. He responded positively to the proposal, which was estimated to cost Rs. 1,000 crore. If everything goes on expected lines, the work on the project may begin by December this year,” he said.

Regarding the road connecting Hassan and Periyapatna (State highway 21), the Minister said that the government had approved the upgrading of 74 km. stretch costing Rs. 261 crore. The tender for the project would be finalised in the next two months, he said.
