Women from all over the State are evincing great interest in entrepreneurship, and hence the government is seriously considering setting up of clusters exclusively for women in tier-II cities, said Rathna Prabha, Additional Chief Secretary.

Inaugurating a training programme for women entrepreneurs on industries and trade here on Thursday, she said that exclusive clusters will be set up in cities such as Mysuru, Mangaluru, Kalaburagi, Hubballi and other places. She said lands have been identified for these clusters.

A 50-acre plot has been identified near Adakanahalli in Mysuru and hundreds of women entrepreneurs have applied for industrial plots there, she said adding that going by the huge response, 50 acres may not be sufficient to accommodate all entrepreneurs of Mysuru. Hence, she asked the district authorities to identify another 50 acres close to the lands that had already been identified.

She said that the government has decided to set up separate plots for women, backward classes and SC and ST people in the new industrial policy implemented in 2015.

Ms. Rathna Prabha said the government was planning to send more women entrepreneurs this year on a foreign tour to study and establish market for their commodities there.

The government is there to supplement and support women entrepreneurs, she said and asked them not to depend entirely on the government for their ventures.

Sudhakar Shetty, senior vice-president of FKCCI, Bengaluru, called upon the women entrepreneurs not to set up industries just for the sake of availing bank loans or government schemes. He told them to set up industries and work with all seriousness to achieve success.

The Women Industry and Business Empowerment (WIBE) Institution facilitated eight successful entrepreneurs on the occasion.

Gayathi Keshavarao, president of WIBE, presided over the function. H. Ramakrishne Gowda, Joint Director of DIC, was present.
