A woman, who alighted from a train at the Gulbarga Railway Station, was molested and beaten allegedly by an autorickshaw driver before being robbed of Rs. 50,000 in cash on the outskirts of the city on Wednesday.

The victim, a labourer in Mumbai, alighted at the railway station at 6.20 a.m. on her way to her tanda in Chincholi taluk. She hired an autorickshaw to go to the bus stand at Nehru Gunj to catch a bus to Chincholi.

According to her father, she is now being treated in a hospital. He said there was another passenger in the autorickshaw, who got down midway. The driver, instead of taking the woman to her destination, took another route.

Then, he molested the woman and demanded that she hand over money and other valuables to him. In the melee, the woman was hit with an iron rod. She has suffered injuries and damage to the eye.

Later, the autorickshaw driver dumped her on the roadside and fled. The police have registered a case.
