A woman was killed and two others were injured when a sand mound caved in at Vegamadagu in Tayalur hobli under Mulbagal police limits on Friday. They were said to have been extracting sand from a tank.

The police gave the name of the victim as Sujathamma (36). Her husband, Krishnappa and son, Chandrashekhar, were the injured. The incident occurred at around 11 a.m. “The family had gone to bring sand for construction of a toilet in their house,” the police said. The Mulbagal police have registered a case.

DC’s warning

Deputy Commissioner K.V. Trilokchandra has warned that stringent action will be taken against those engaged in illegal sand extraction and transportation. This is following a threat to Kolar tahsildar Rangegowda and other revenue officials during a raid on Wednesday night by an alleged sand mafia near Kendatti.

“Illegal sand miners and transporters will be expelled from the district,” Mr. Trilokchandra said.
