Vanamala, 40, died of H1N1 in Bidar on Sunday. This is the fifth death from the disease in the district. She was admitted to a private hospital in Hyderabad earlier.

However, the family could not afford the treatment and brought her back to the district government hospital in Bidar, the authorities said.

Seven cases

Seven students of Sainik School Bijapur have been confirmed of having H1N1 infection. They have been admitted in a private hospital here.

The students were being treated at the isolation ward of the hospital, and were recovering well. Confirming this, R. Balaji, Principal of the School, told The Hindu that the students, after complaining of illness, were taken to the hospital. Col. Balaji said that the students possibly got infected after coming in contact with the people who had come from north India for writing an entrance exam that was held on February 22.

“Meanwhile, as a precaution, we have declared seven-day holiday and sent the students to home,” he said.
