A 29-year-old woman was found hanging from the ceiling at her in-laws’ house at Kote Beedhi in Channapatna, Ramanagaram district, on Sunday morning.

The deceased has been identified as Jyothi Mahesh. Jyothi’s parents have accused her husband Mahesh, who owns a bakery near Doom Light Circle in Channapatna, of killing her for failing to bring additional dowry.

Jyothi and Mahesh, both victims of Belur, got married two years ago and had been staying at Kote Beedhi since, the police said.

After learning about her death, Jyothi’s relatives staged a protest outside Mahesh’s residence and urged the police to take action against him.

Based on the complaint filed by Jyothi’s family, the police have taken Mahesh in for questioning.
