Bhadravathi police have arrested a teacher on charges of murdering her husband.
The name of the arrested was given as Lakshmi, who is a teacher with the Government Primary School at Antaragange village in Bhadravathi taluk. The victim – Imtiyaz, was a teacher with the Government Primary School at Kalagunda village in Sorab taluk.
Imtiyaz and Lakshmi had got married when they were both teachers in Kalburgi district around six years ago. The couple have a son. Two years ago, the couple got transferred to Shivamogga district. Lakshmi used to live in a rented house at Jannapura locality in Bhadravathi city, while Imtiyaz would visit during the weekends.
On Friday evening, when Imtiyaz visited Lakshmi, the two broke into a quarrel over a petty issue. The police said that in a fit of rage, Imtiyaz reportedly slapped Lakshmi, who then allegedly assaulted him with a metal rod. Imtiyaz, who was seriously injured, died on the spot.
The police added that Lakshmi, with the help of her relatives Krishnamurthy and Shivaraj, tried to dump the body in the Bhadra river. The body was retrieved from the river on Saturday afternoon.
The police have also arrested Krishnamurthy and Shivaraj on the charges of assisting her in executing the crime. They have booked cases under section 302 (murder) and 201(causing disappearance of evidence) of Indian Penal Code against the arrested.
