With the slogan ‘Prevent Fire Accidents, Promote Nation’s Development’, the Fire and Emergency Services Department has launched an awareness drive in Mysuru as part of Fire Safety Week, observed from April 14 to 20.

With the aim of mitigating fire accidents by taking precautionary steps, the department will hold demonstrations on safety precautions and on what to do when there is a fire tragedy.

On Friday, a fire awareness rally was taken out from the Regional Fire Office at Saraswathipuram through Ramaswamy Circle and the Deputy Commissioner’s office, before culminating at the starting point.

The fire fighting personnel demonstrated their prowess in combating fire and explained safety measures to be taken. They demonstrated how fires are caused by cylinder blast, chemicals and explosives, besides distributing pamphlets listing out details on the steps to be taken in case of a gas leak, LPG blast or high-rise building fire.

The department has proposed holding demos at shopping malls, cinema halls and so on in the coming days to spread awareness.
