Wipro seeks early clearances for information technology SEZ

IT major Wipro Technologies on Tuesday sought early clearances for the establishment of a Special Economic Zone (SEZ) in information technology in Bangalore.

Azim Premji, chairman, Azim Premji Foundation, called on Chief Minister Siddaramaiah in the State Secretariat and sought early clearances to enable Wipro Technologies to set up the SEZat Kodathihalli in the city.

The project was expected to provide 25,000 jobs in the first phase.

Mr. Siddaramaiah told presspersons after the meeting that Mr. Premji had sought early clearances from the departments such as Forests and Environment, and Energy and the Bangalore Development Authority for the establishment of the SEZ. He had instructed officials to take steps to give the clearances.
