Expressing dismay over the withdrawal of official cars provided to chiefs of various standing panels of the Mysuru City Corporation (MCC), several councillors on Monday questioned the civic body’s propriety in extending the facility to environmental engineers.
The MCC had withdrawn the facility to heads of five standing committees about three months ago. It came after MCC’s Standing Committee on Town Planning and Improvement Nandeesh Preetam surrendered his official car and sought clarification from the authorities over his eligibility for a car at the cost of taxpayers’ money. Subsequently, when the government said the standing panel chiefs were not eligible for a car facility as per the rules, MCC Commissioner G. Jagadeesha withdrew the cars.
While the councillors expressed their disappointment over the withdrawal of cars from the standing panel chiefs, BJP councillor Shivakumar said the MCC Commissioner should discussed the matter before the MCC Council before acting on the government instructions.
The councillors contended that providing cars to environmental engineers was allegedly in violation of the provisions of the Karnataka Municipal Corporation (KMC) Act.
The MCC Commissioner said the environmental engineers had been provided cars in view of their workload. A decision will be taken on continuing the facility if it is permissible under the C&R rules, he added.
