Asking why BJP members did not demand a probe by the Central Bureau of Investigation into the Bangalore–Mysore Infrastructure Corridor (BMIC) project scam, Minister for Law and Parliamentary Affairs T.B. Jayachandra wanted to know why they were now demanding a CBI probe into the land denotification scam alleged to have taken place in Bangalore Development Authority (BDA) limits.
After inaugurating a State-level kite festival here on Sunday, Mr. Jayachandra wanted to know that when the government was ready for an inquiry by the Criminal Investigation Department, House committee or judicial inquiry, what was the purpose of the BJP’s demand?
He alleged that the BJP’s only aim was to disrupt the legislature proceedings, which were going on smoothly. He claimed they were staging dharna without any reason.
The government aimed to give sites to local residents of Bangalore, especially Kannadigas, who had paid and had been waiting for the past 10 months to get the sites, he said.
Mr. Jayachandra said that when the BJP was in power for five years, they did not give a single site. He said there would be a delay if a CBI probe was ordered and all the work of giving sites to people would be stopped.
He told the BJP members that there were several Bills pending for discussion and budget proposals had to be passed within two days. Hence, he asked them not to disrupt the sessions.
Mr. Jayachandra, who also holds the Muzrai portfolio, said that thousands of acres of land of around 35,000 Muzrai temples had been encroached. He said action would be taken to clear the encroachments.
