Who will make it to Cabinet from Davangere?

May 16, 2013 11:52 am | Updated November 16, 2021 08:24 pm IST - DAVANGERE:

With the Assembly polls over, the question in Davangere now is whether or not the father-and-son duo of Shamanur Shivashankarappa and S.S. Mallikarjun will get berths in the Siddaramaiah Cabinet.

Mr. Shivashankarappa, who has been elected to the Assembly for the fourth time, has served the party for over four-and-a-half decades, and was one of the contenders for the Chief Minister’s post.

Mr. Mallikarjun, who was a member of the S.M. Krishna Ministry, on the other hand was instrumental in the Congress’ victory in Davangere, during both the urban local body polls and the Assembly polls.

It is by and large certain that Mr. Shivashankarappa will get a Cabinet berth; however, senior party leaders told The Hindu that while the party is inclined to make him a Minister, they do not have similar plans for his son.

Congress workers, led by D. Basavaraj, general secretary of the District Congress Committee, wondered why both could not be made Ministers.
