Karnataka : Tumakuru : 19/08/2017 Chief minister, Siddaramaiah delivering inaugural speech at the Glass House in Tumakuru on Saturday.

Accusing BJP leaders of making unnecessary allegations about Indira Canteens being built encroaching upon parks and playgrounds in Bengaluru, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Saturday said the BJP was against pro-poor measures initiated by the government.

He said no park or playground had been encroached upon for Indira Canteens. “Even in case the government has done so, what is more important for people? Is it food or is it parks or playgrounds?” Mr. Siddaramaiah said.

“The BJP is not appreciating the pro-poor measures initiated by the government. The Opposition parties are against the pro-poor initiatives, including Anna Bhagya and Indira Canteens,” he said here after launching various development works estimated at ₹776 crore. The Chief Minister said the government was doing its best to fight hunger and make food available for the poor at an affordable cost.

He said 101 Indira Canteens were inaugurated on August 16 and remaining would be opened on October 2.

Mr. Siddaramaiah invited the BJP for a public debate on the achievements of the Narendra Modi government at the Centre in the last three years and the State government in the last four years besides the achievements of the previous BJP government in the State.
