Chief Minister Jagadish Shettar has said that the State government will not allow dumping of nuclear waste from the Kudankulam nuclear power plant in the defunct gold mines at Kolar Gold Fields.

Speaking to presspersons here on Friday, Mr. Shettar urged people in Kolar district not to worry over the issue.

“Department of Atomic Energy’s spokesperson S.K. Malhotra has clarified this before the media. We will not allow dumping of nuclear waste in Kolar,” Mr. Shettar said.

Mr. Shettar said that the Union government has not shared any information about dumping nuclear waste from Kudankulam in Kolar Gold Fields.

The State government has explained the people’s protest in the State to the Union government, he added.
