May 05, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:55 am IST - MYSURU:

City Police Commissioner B. Dayananda on Monday hoped to crack undetected cases in the city, including the mysterious murder of 48-year-old homemaker Vasumathi at her residence in Yadavgiri in February.

Fielding reporters’ queries at an interaction with the Mysuru District Journalists’ Association (MDJA) here on Monday, Mr. Dayananda, who took charge as City Police Commissioner the previous Wednesday, said he had been briefed about the Vasumathi murder case senior police officials and expressed confidence that the Central Crime Branch (CCB), which has been entrusted with the investigation, would crack the case as soon as possible. Vasumathi, wife of J.A. Mohan Kumar, was found dead in a pool of blood with her throat slit open on February 25. Police had said that a sharp weapon had been used to attack the victim and stab wounds were found on her stomach.

Mr. Dayananda, who claimed that crime rate and law and order in the City was under control, said the police will crack down on gambling, betting and prostitution in the City.

The Police Commissionersaid new programmes would be chalked out only after he familiarises himself more about the issues and challenges before the police.

“I have started visiting police stations, finding out the numerical strength in each police station, the administration system, etc. I hope to complete visiting all the 22 police stations, besides the five traffic police stations and one women’s police station by the end of this week,” he said.

Mr. Dayananda said he was looking forward providing security during the Dasara celebrations. Leading the city police while providing security to the Dasara celebrations was not only an honour, but was also a challenge, he said.

Earlier, Mr. Dayananda joined MDJA president K. Deepak, General Secretary K.J. Lokesh Babu and secretary Sreekantaswamy in condoling the death of Sanjevani founder B.S. Mani, who died on Sunday.

‘I hope to complete visiting all 22 police stations in the city by the end of this week.’
