BJP State President Prahlad Joshi has said that his party would work as a constructive opposition party in the state assembly.
Speaking to press persons before the start of the introspection meeting of party workers in Hubli on Tuesday, Mr Joshi said that the party would not make any attempt to gain the status of opposition party in the state assembly.
He said that although both BJP and JD(S) had secured equal number of seats in the state assembly, JD(S) was set to get the status of opposition party as it had got more vote share than BJP. “We will not make any attempt to snatch the position from JD(S)”, he said.
To a query on whether the party would join hands with JD(S) to work as a constructive opposition, Mr Joshi said that the party would join hands with JD(S) to protest against the anti-people policies of the Congress if the ruling party initiated such policies.
Mr Joshi said that the party was opposed to the cheap liquor proposed by the chief minister and soon it would launch a campaign against the same.
He said that he would welcome the chief minister’s decision to give rice at the rate of Re 1 per kilogram but would want the Congress government to make efforts to bring down the prices of the essential commodities. “I would request Mr Siddaramaiah to appeal to UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi to initiate steps to bring down the soaring prices”, he said.
