Janata Dal (Secular) State unit president H.D. Kumaraswamy on Sunday said the party had finalised the list of candidates for the Assembly elections and would release it at one go.

He was speaking after the former MLA Parimala Nagappa joined the party here.

Mr. Kumaraswamy spiked rumours that the JD(S) was waiting for other political parties to release their lists of candidates first. He said while national parties were struggling to finalise their candidates, the JD(S) had already finalised its list.

Poll strategy

As the party was finalising its election strategy, senior leaders had suggested that candidates’ list be released later, he said. The party’s election manifesto was also ready. The list and the manifesto would be released after consulting party supremo H.D. Deve Gowda, Mr. Kumaraswamy said.

To a question, Mr. Kumaraswamy said the party had not taken a final call on a tie-up with BSR Congress. “The JD(S) does not require an alliance with any party. It is true that a few well-wishers of the BSR Congress had held discussions with me. The process is still in the discussion stage,” he said.

He said the party had decided to field candidates belonging to minority communities in five of the 28 Assembly constituencies in Bangalore. Mr. Kumaraswamy announced the names of four candidates on the occasion. They are: B.Z. Zameer Ahmed Khan (Chamarajpet), Abdul Azeem (Hebbal), Abbas Ali Bohra (Shivajinagar) and K.S. Sameeulla (Jayanagar).

Party leaders M.C. Nanaiah, Basavaraj Horatti and Hanumanthappa Alkod were among those present.
