The Belagavi City Corporation Mayor, Sarita Patil, has announced an ambitious “Water for All” initiative and that a special meeting of the BCC council would be convened to prepare an action plan soon.

The announcement came in response to the demand by Feroz N. Sait, MLA, that the BCC exhibit necessary will power to connect every house in the city with drinking water tap connection.

However, the Mayor did not respond to his specific demand on providing free tap-connection to every house of economically poor sections of the city.

Mr. Sait said that the around Rs.30 crore was lying unutilised with the Karnataka Urban Water Supply and Drainage Board, Belagavi, and that the Board could spend at least Rs. 1 crore towards providing free drinking water tap connections to the poor families. “Funds are worth it if they are utilised,” he remarked.
