Warrant against former Goa Minister extended

April 20, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:41 am IST - PANAJI:

Margao Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMFC), south Goa, Pooja Kavlekar, on Friday extended by another five days the warrant of arrest issued against Goa’s convicted former Rural Development Minister Mickky Pacheco who is absconding. He has to undergo six months jail for the 2006 assault on Electricity Department Junior Engineer Kapil Natekar.

The Colva Police had on Thursday returned the warrant while submitting to the court that despite all their strenuous efforts over the last seven days, Mr. Pacheco could not be traced.

Declining the Colva police’s plea to initiate the process of issuing proclamation against  Mr. Pacheco, judge Kavlekar in her order on Friday observed that the Colva police had not done enough to track him. She also sought details of the exact location where Mr. Pacheco was last spotted in Delhi and directed the police to also seek information of his whereabouts from his lawyers in Delhi and Goa.

Meanwhile, the judge on Friday heard arguments on the petition filed by Aires Rodrigues seeking an inquiry and action against the Colva police for not arresting Mr. Pacheco.
