A meeting convened by M.J. Ravikumar, Mayor, and M.K. Somashekar, Krishnaraja MLA, at the old council hall of Mysuru City Corporation on Tuesday to discuss the drinking water situation turned noisy with councillors belonging to different parties engaging in a war of words over what they called erratic water supply to their respective wards.
The meeting gains significance following water crisis in some parts of Mysuru South coming under the K.R. Constituency.
Councillors representing wards under this constituency complained of irregular water supply and blamed the officials for not addressing the problem. Kuvempunagar, Ramakrishnanagar, and Jayanagar were among the areas said to be facing water shortage. Water to these areas was being pumped from the Kabini, whose storage levels had dropped substantially.
Kempanna of JD(S) and Jagadish of the Congress engaged in a heated argument during the discussion on the wards facing water shortage. Mr. Kempanna blamed the officials for the inadequacy in the supply and maintained that the councillors have to reply to the residents when such situations arise.
In the end, the meeting resolved to address the shortcomings by asking the officials to give priority to repair of old pumps and ensure uninterrupted power supply.
