Wanted man shot at after he attacks policemen

An accused, who reportedly has four robbery cases pending against him in four different police stations, was shot at and injured in an encounter near Farhatabad on the outskirts of Kalaburagi early on Friday morning. Three police personnel, a sub-inspector of police and two police constables, were injured when the accused attacked them.

Inspector-General of Police (North Eastern Range) Alok Kumar said that the accused, Mohammad Irfan, was wanted in four robbery cases in different police stations since 2015. He said that the accused, along with his gang, committed another robbery at Nadisinnur village on the outskirts of the city recently. On Thursday night, the gang had waylaid a wine shop manager near Biddapur Colony and took away cash, a mobile phone and a two-wheeler from him. Four teams of the Kalaburagi police laid a trap for him in the city and arrested him on Friday morning. The police said that they were forced to open fire as the accused attacked the team with a knife. The injured policemen are Sub-Inspector of Police of Farhatabad Police Station Waheed Kotwal and constables of the Rural Police Station Keshav and Hussain Basha.

All the three police personnel were shifted to the Basaveshwara Teaching and General Hospital and the accused is in the District Government Hospital. A case has been registered at the Rural Police Station.
