The three-day rituals held to mark the first death anniversary of Srikantadatta Narasimharaja Wadiyar concluded on the palace premises on Monday.
After Wadiyar’s nephew Chaduranga Kantharaj Urs performed rituals as per traditions of the royal family under the supervision of Pramoda Devi Wadiyar. Food was served to a large number of people near Kote Anjaneyaswamy Temple in the palace and at Madhuvana, the cemetery of the royal family located on Mysuru-Ooty Road.
Wadiyar died in Bengaluru on December 10, 2013As per the Hindu calendar, the royal family began the rituals on Saturday.
Family members, including his sisters Indrakshi Devi, Meenakshi Devi, Kamakshi Devi, and Vishalakshi Devi, a large number of relatives and friends were present on the occasion.
Ms. Pramoda Devi Wadiyar offered floral tributes to Wadiyar’s portrait placed on a specially erected mantapa inside the palace, before the Vaikunta Samaradhana rituals were performed.
Sources in the royal family said Ms. Pramoda Devi Wadiyar had constructed a tomb where the mortal remains of her husband had been interred in Madhuvana.
Parakala Math seer Abhinava Vageesha Brahmatantra Swatantra Swami participated in the rituals. Special pujas were also held in the temples on the palace premises.
Home Minister K.J. George; Vasu, M.K. Somashekar, G.T. Deve Gowda, MLAs, and former cricketer Brijesh Patel were present.
The Mysuru palace was closed for the public on Monday.
