VTU’s 15th convocation on Friday

Top three medal winners are girls from Mysuru and Bengaluru

Manjeshwar Gayatri Prabhu of G.S.S.S. Institute of Engineering and Technology for Women, Mysuru, has emerged the topper among the 17 winners of endowment gold medals and cash prizes that will be given away at the 15th convocation of the Visvesvaraya Technological University on Friday.

Incidentally, all the top three medal winners are girls from Mysuru and Bengaluru.

Gayatri has bagged eight gold medals and a cash prize for securing the first rank, highest marks in B.E. (Electrical and Electronics Engineering), highest marks among the rank holders in any branch of B.E. and highest marks among the students of the engineering colleges affiliated to VTU.

Niveditha M. of Global Academy of Technology, Bengaluru, has won six gold medals and a cash prize for having secured first rank and highest marks in B.E. (Civil Engineering). Deepthi Devaraj of B.N.M. Institute of Technology, Bengaluru, has also bagged five medals and a cash prize for securing first rank, highest marks and topping the B.E. (Computer Science and Engineering).

Acting Vice-Chancellor of VTU V. Sridhar told reporters here on Monday that B.E. degree would be conferred to 53,972 students, B.Arch to 176 students, MBA to 4,258 students, MCA to 2,730 students, M. Tech. to 7,669 students and M. Arch. degree to 23 students, besides awarding Ph.D. degrees to 112 students and M.Sc (Engg.) degrees to 20 students.

He said A.S. Kiran Kumar, Chairman, Space Commission, would deliver the convocation address, while Governor Vajubhai Vala, who is also the Chancellor of VTU, will confer the degrees. T.B. Jayachandra, Minister for Higher Education, Law, Justice, Human Rights and Parliamentary Affairs, will be present.
