VTU convocation on May 9

Dayanand Sagar College of Engineering (DSCE), Bengaluru, has bagged the maxium ranks in graduate and postgraduate courses during the academic year 2013-14, among the engineering colleges affiliated to the Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU). DSCE has bagged 58 ranks out of the total 422 ranks secured by 78 colleges. Bangalore Institute of Technology (BIT) has secured 22 ranks.

Toppers to be honoured

Ahad Tarade of Karnataka Law Society’s Gogte Institute of Technology (GIT), Belagavi, is the topper among gold medallists with 13 medals, followed by Abhilash A.S. of BIT, who has 7 gold medals. As many as 24 candidates have won 90 VTU and endowment gold medals as well as cash prizes.

They will receive their honours during VTU’s 14th annual convocation to be held at its auditorium at Jnana Sangama campus here on May 9 at 11 a.m.

VTU Vice-Chancellor H. Maheshappa said the university would confer Bachelor of Engineering degree to 50,528 students and Bachelor of Architecture degree to 138 students. As many as 5,284 MBA students, 3,401 MCA students, 6,650 M. Tech. students and 14 M. Arch. students will receive their degrees.

Governor and Chancellor of VTU Vajubhai Vala would preside over the convocation. Minister for Higher Education and Pro-Chancellor of VTU R.V. Deshpande would also attend the event. Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu would deliver the convocation address to the gathering.

Honorary doctorate

He said that K. Chidananda Gowda, the former Vice-Chancellor of Kuvempu University, Shivamogga, is likely to be selected for the VTU’s honorary degree of Doctor of Science (D.Sc). His name was among the 15 eminent personalities recommended by the VTU Syndicate and forwarded to the State government.
