Hundreds of voters visited polling booths across the district on Sunday, consequent to the publishing of the voters’ list, to verify their names.
Senior district officers including Deputy Commissioner V.Anbukkumar, who is also the Returning Officer, and U.P. Singh, zilla panchayat Chief Executive Officer, visited several booths to monitor the campaign.
Eligible voters have time till March 16 to enrol. The campaign, held on Sunday, would help voters check missing names so they can avoid confusion on polling day. Mr. Anbukkumar said voters could enrol by filling up form 6 available at nada kacheris and the offices of the tahsildar and Assistant Commissioner. They can also contact booth-level officers for the forms.
The district administration has opened a control room exclusively for election related functions. Implementation of the Model Code of Conduct will be monitored from the control room, which has helplines to receive complaints from the public and field officers. In order to increase polling percentages in the coming Lok Sabha elections, the Mandya district administration launched a special enrolment drive at all polling booths in the Mandya Lok Sabha constituency on Sunday.
The district administration has set up 2,019 polling booths across the constituency, which comprises eight Assembly segments. According to Deputy Commissioner M.N. Ajay Nagabhushan, as many as 16,41,671 people [as of January 31] have voting rights in the segment.
The district administration displayed the present voters’ list at 261 polling booths in the Malavalli Assembly segment; 253 at Maddur; 249 at Melkote; 257 at Mandya; 245 at Srirangapatna; 251 at Nagamangala; 255 at Krishnaraja Pet; and 248 polling booths in the Krishnaraja Nagar Assembly constituency.
Mr. Nagabhushan, also the Returning Officer, visited Tubinakere, Kalenahalli, and other polling booths on Sunday. Shantha L. Hulmani, Assistant Commissioner of Mandya, also visited some booths.
