Polling in Karikatti village under Kakkeri Gram Panchayat of Khanapur taluk was affected when voters refused to vote and boycotted the polls.

However, polling was restored after Tahsildar S.M. Naik and other officials rushed to the village to pacify agitating voters.

Mr. Naik told The Hindu that the villagers stayed back from voting due to differences between candidates and their supporters over local issues. “However, we were successful in pacifying the villagers and restored polling”.

The villagers said that they had decided to boycott polling to draw attention of the Government towards the neglect of development works in their village, which lacked proper roads. They called off their protest after the taluk authorities assured to take up their demands with the concerned authorities and contestants also assured to work for the development of the village.
