Vimala Gowda quits post

July 11, 2014 11:53 pm | Updated 11:53 pm IST - Bangalore

Deputy Chairperson of the Legislative Council Vimala Gowda, who on Wednesday accused Chairman D.H. Shankaramurthy of conspiring against her to dislodge her from the post, resigned on Thursday.

Mr. Shankaramurthy announced in the Council that Ms. Gowda’s resignation had been accepted. She had held the post for over 40 months.

The Council witnessed some lighter moments after the announcement when Congress members said that while seven women had been made Ministers in Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Cabinet, the BJP did not let a woman occupy the Deputy Chairperson’s post.
