Villages provided drinking water from private borewells

The district administration has taken steps to provide drinking water to the severely affected villages in the district by hiring water from private borewells.

Owners of only two to three borewells are being rent and the rest are proving water for free.

The rent has been fixed between Rs. 5,000 to Rs. 10,000 per month.

30 villages

As many as 30 villages are being provided drinking water from 34 borewells.

Of them, 24 villages are in Yadgir taluk followed by two in Shahpur taluk and four in Surpur taluk.

Decision

“The decision to provide drinking water to the affected people to mitigate the problem had been taken after detailed reports from Panchayat Development Officers of the respective gram panchayats on the availability of water sources and demands of the people was submitted,” Vasant Kulkarni, Deputy Secretary of zilla panchayat, told The Hindu on Friday.

Three villages each in Kakalwar and Motnalli gram panchayats, two villages in Gazarkot, Allipur, Ramsamudra and Mundragi gram panchayats, and one village in Konkal, Arkera (B), Thanagundi, Jaigram, Arkera (K), Halagera, Chandraki, Putpak and Honagera GPs in Yadgir taluk are being provided water.

One village each in Wadagera and Gonal GPs in Shahapur taluk and one village each in Khanapur (SH), Yaktapur, Baichbal and Kolihal GPs in Surpur taluk are being provided water so far, he added.
