Demanding that the Election Commission conduct re-polling of Babaleshwar constituency after around eight VVPATs were found in a shed in Jumanal village, BJP leader Vijugouda Patil took out a rally and submitted memorandum here on Monday.

It may be noted that on Sunday, eight VVPATs were found in a tin-shed on the highway near Jumanal village.

Mr. Vijugouda Patil, who contested against M.B. Patil of the Congress, and lost in the Assembly election claimed that those VVPATs were of Babaleshwar constituency.

Accusing EC officials of helping Mr. Patil win, he said that despite bringing Mr. Patil’s corrupt practices to win election to their notice, the officials did not take action.

Meanwhile, addressing mediapersons, Deputy Commissioner Sanjay Shettennavar said information has been sent to EC officials regarding the issue. Two officials were on their way to Vijayapura to check the VVPATs. He added that all the EVMs and VVPATs given by the EC to the district were secure. He also said that the VVPATs found do not have machines inside and also have no codes that help in identifying the place where they were sent.

Mr. Shettennavar said that only the EC officials could confirm the details.
