November 25, 2015 12:00 am | Updated November 26, 2015 12:37 pm IST - Vijayapura:

Under the State government’s newly formulated Tourist Mitra scheme to provide safety to tourists, Vijayapura district will get 15 tourist police from the Karnataka State Tourism Development Corporation (KSTDC).

Deputy Commissioner D. Randeep said that after the official launch of the scheme in Bengaluru, various districts would be given a stipulated number of tourist police, and Vijayapura would get 15.

He said that the trained tourist police would be reporting at the tourism office here soon. Based on the requirement, officials of the Tourism Department would depute them to the required tourist destinations in the district.

“They would be deputed to important places such as Gol Gumbaz, Ibrahim Roza, Bara Kaman and Almatti Dam, which receive a substantial number of tourists,” Mr. Randeep said.

He said that the staff — who are appointed by the Home Ministry — would get payment on a daily-wage basis.
