With elections for gram panchayats on Friday, the district administration has made elaborate arrangements for a free and fair ‘rural fight’.

The polls would be held for 206 gram panchayats in the district which has 3,378 wards and 9,969 candidates will contest it.As many as 527 members have already been elected unopposed in the district.

Polls will not be held in 53 villages for various reasons including boycott of the polls, stay by courts or incomplete term.

Meanwhile on Thursday, polling officials were dispatched to their respective polling stations with election material under police security.

For the polls, the district administration has declared a holiday on Friday for all government offices, school and colleges. Weekly markets, cattle fairs and jatras of temples have also been banned for the day to enable the people to participate in the election.
