With the Chief Minister Siddaramaiah earmarking Rs. 10 crore to the district for development of tourism, the district administration began making some tentative projects for the optimum usage of the funds.
Speaking to The Hindu , D. Randeep, Deputy Commissioner shared some of the plans for developing tourism sector of the historic district.
Informing that detailed reported would be prepared after the meeting of District Tourism Council (DTC) to be convened next month, he however said that some of key elements would be improve softskill among guides, restoration of some ancient monuments and creation of better Tourist Information Centres.
“Since both domestic and foreign visitors come here, the tourism department is facing acute shortage of skilled and well learned guides who can interact effectively in many languages, mainly English. In order to create a good team of guides, our focus will be to impart skill training to some of the select aspirants”, he said.
Mr. Randeep said that he also plans to coordinate with various private and government tour operators for brining tourists here.
“Many foreign tourists, landing in Bengaluru and planning to visit the city, often find difficulty in reaching here or to get better accommodation. We would like to contact tour operators with a package for the tourists,” he said.
The official added that since the paid helicopter ride introduced during the Navaraspur Utsav witnessed a grand success, the government would be proposed to have it has permanent feature for tourists here.
“We also plans to use the funds for the restoration of the monuments”, he said and added that the district administration is only waiting for the GO (government order) before executing their plans.
