The State government has suspended Katepaga Vijayakumar, Registrar (Administration), Vijayanagar Sri Krishnadevaraya University, after being caught while allegedly taking bribe and arrested by the Lokayukta police.
The order (ED 10 URE 2015 dated March 27, 2015) said that suspension would be with retrospective effect from March 24 and would be in force till further orders.
Granted bail
C.V. Margoor, Principal District and Sessions Judge granted him bail on Friday. The judge heard the bail application plea and also the objections, granted a conditional bail. He was earlier remanded in judicial custody.
Mr. Vijayakumar had allegedly demanded Rs. 5 lakh as bribe from Akheel Ahmed, vice-chairman of Mehaboob Education Trust, which runs Royal B.Ed. College in Ballari, failing which he said he would recommend for derecognition of the college saying there were no proper infrastructure there. After a bargain, Mr. Vijayakumar reportedly agreed to accept Rs. 3.5 lakh.
Mr. Akheel Ahmed did not want to give the bribe and lodged a complaint with the Lokayukta police.
Meanwhile, L.R. Naik, Registrar (Evaluation) has been asked to hold additional charge as Registrar (Administration).
