Eugene E. Karthak, Regional Director, Reserve Bank of India, Bengaluru, has urged villagers to make use digitised banking activities for speedy and safe transactions. He was speaking after inaugurating the ‘digital village’ programme at Chandagalu in the district on Thursday.

Vijaya Bank, the leading bank in Mandya district, has developed Chandagalu as a digital village. It is the first digital banking village in the State. The bank has trained all 5,995 account holders in the village about the digitisation of the banking sector to provide cashless banking services to every villager, Mr. Karthak said.

He also cautioned account holders to not share their account details, ATM card details, security PIN and other confidential information with the fraudsters/unknown persons.

Kishore Sansi, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Vijaya Bank, said that account holders in the village have opened 2,350 accounts under the ‘Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana’ (PMJDY) and availed bank loans worth Rs. 18.21 crore.

The bank has opened an ATM counter in the village besides offering high-speed Wi-Fi facilities.

The bank has already conducted training sessions on Internet and mobile banking in the village to encourage digitisation and a cashless economy, Mr. Sansi said.
