Industrialist Vijay Mallya will be contesting for Rajya Sabha from Karnataka.

Liquor baron and former MP Vijay Mallya, with the support of the Janata Dal (Secular), and senior Congress member T.V. Maruthi on Monday filed their nomination papers for the Rajya Sabha elections be held on June 17.

Three other candidates - Oscar Fernandes of the Congress and M. Venkaiah Naidu and Ayanur Manjunath of the Bharatiya Janata Party — have already filed their nomination papers for the biennial elections for four seats from the State. In all, there are 12 Rajya Sabha seats from Karnataka. Mr. Mallya escorted by the former Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy and the former Minister H.D. Revanna filed his nomination papers as an independent candidate.
