As many as seven persons, including Mohammed Nalapad Haris, son of Shanthinagar MLA, have been arrested in connection with the assault on 23-year-old Vidvat at an up-market café in the city on February 17.

The other accused have been identified as Arun Babu, Manjunath, Mohammed Ashraf, Abhishek, Balakrishna and Mohammed Nasir. The Cubbon Park police produced them before the court and have taken them into custody for two days for further investigation.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Central) Chandragupta said Nalapad was questioned till late last night about the attack at the Cubbon Park police station. He reportedly confessed during the questioning.

The probe so far has revealed that the attack was following a trivial row. It is reported that it was triggered after Vidvat’s leg accidentally touched Nalapad, who was passing by. When asked to apologise, Vidvat reportedly refused, leading to the fight, Mr. Chandragupta said.

He added that the police have questioned several persons, including staff, who were at the café at the time of the incident. They have also verified the CCTV footage and were waiting for Vidvat to recover to record his statement.

Mr. Chandragupta said that there were other accused, who were involved in the incident, who are still absconding. Efforts were on to nab them, he added.
